The Story Behind Human Alchemy

I knew how to build a body. I had to learn how to inhabit a life.

For more than two decades, strength was my craft, my obsession and eventually my armor. Losing the body I had built forced me to discover what remained beneath it.

The First Chapter

Building the armor.

From the age of eighteen until nearly forty, much of my identity revolved around becoming as muscular as possible. Training was my craft, my obsession and, eventually, my armor.

I understood strength, nutrition and physical transformation at an exceptionally high level, but I gave very little attention to personal authenticity. Much of what I did was driven by appearance, validation and the approval of people who did not truly know me. I was building a body for likes while becoming increasingly disconnected from the person living inside it.

2020

Then my body forced everything to stop.

Undiagnosed colitis progressed into a medical emergency. In seven weeks, I went from 235 pounds to 154. I underwent the emergency removal of my entire colon and lived with an ileostomy for eight months before the creation of my J-pouch.

The physical experience was devastating, but the loss of identity was even more disorienting. The body I had spent more than twenty years constructing had become the foundation of how I saw myself and how I believed others saw me. When it disappeared, I had no choice but to confront what remained.

The Turning Point
That rupture became the beginning of a different kind of transformation.
Looking Inward

Strength became a larger idea.

Recovery created the silence and space for me to look inward in ways I had avoided for most of my life. I began practicing yoga and meditation. I explored breath, mantra, resonance and the effects of sound on the body and nervous system. Eventually, I became a certified sound healer.

These practices did not replace strength. They changed my understanding of it.

I came to see that a powerful body and an unsettled inner life can exist at the same time. Health is not merely appearance, performance or the ability to endure more punishment. It also involves recovery, awareness, emotional honesty, nervous-system regulation and the capacity to live in alignment with who you actually are.

Human Alchemy

Both chapters belong.

Human Alchemy Collective grew from that realization. My work now brings together the disciplines that shaped both chapters of my life: strength training, nutrition and physical development alongside recovery, mindfulness, meditation, yoga and sound.

I still believe deeply in physical strength. I simply no longer believe it is the whole story.

Real transformation is not about returning to who you were. It is about using everything you have lived through to become someone more whole.
